Basics

Brown Sugar

(Light Brown Sugar) - 1 Cup white sugar - 1 tsp molasses (treacle)

(Dark Brown Sugar) - 1 Cup white sugar - 2 tsps molasses

Combine sugar and molasses in a mixing bowl. Get a hand dirty. Store in air-tight container for months.

To prevent clumping add a piece of white bread in the container (although I've never found this to be necessary)

Hard Boiled Eggs

Older eggs are easier to peal, buy a week ahead if possible. Steam new eggs instead (15 minutes in steamer basket). Recipe source.

  • 6 - 12 eggs
  • ½ tsp salt (add to water)

  • Cover eggs in water (6 1 inch water above, 12, 2 inches)

  • Heat on high until rolling boil
  • Turn off heat, let sit for 10-12 minutes (time may vary ±3 minutes, depeneding on preference)
  • Strain and rinse in cold water to stop them cooking

Store covered in fridge, consume within 5 days.
